In the last year, I have transitioned my diet from 33%/33%/34% beef/chicken/seafood diet to a 80/10/10 diet. It works better for my digestive issues, and my slowing metabolism. But, between beef and chicken, which reigns supreme?
Joy Baiers’ (MS,RD,CDN) opinion is that red meat tends to be marbled and higher fat than white chicken meat, chicken breasts ( minus the skin) is just leaner if weight loss is your goal. Red meat does contain higher amounts of absorbable iron (but you can get iron from spinach and lentils).
If you do crave beef, go for the leaner cuts like eye round steak, (4oz. - 227 cal), or top sirloin steak (4 oz.-280cal). Ground turkey ranks in for 4 oz at 120 cal. Chicken breast has 160 cal. for 4 oz.
